About Pack 79

Scouting is about encouraging boys and girls to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge.

Pack 79 is open to boys and girls entering grades K-5. Each child is placed in a Den with scouts from the same grade level. Dens meet under the guidance of a volunteer adult leader and parents to focus on new skills and advancement, all while having fun. On the Advancement Trail, a Cub Scout progresses towards a badge of rank based on their grade. They need not have earned the previous rank to earn the next. Each rank in Cub Scouting has its own requirements that are age-appropriate. As a Cub Scout advances through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging to match the new skills and abilities they have learned.

Cub Scout Ranks

Lion – Kindergarten
Tiger – 1st grade
Wolf – 2nd grade
Bear – 3rd grade
Webelo – 4th grade
Arrow of Light – 5th grade

Marblehead has long supported two Cub Scout Packs based on demand. Generally speaking, Glover School neighborhood/students have joined Pack 79, and Brown School neighborhood/students have joined Pack 11. Sometimes peer preferences or other factors will influence this decision; thus, it is not a requirement.

Pack 79 is grateful to have been sponsored by Clifton Lutheran Church since 1942. Each year Cub Scouts join the church for Scout Sunday and help to unload and sort pumpkins for the church fundraiser.

Time Commitment

We understand life is busy and conflicts will arise, so we encourage Cub Scouts to attend the events they can. On average, we meet 3-4 times monthly, either as a Den or Pack. Den meetings (grade-specific) are typically held every other Monday from 6:30 to 7:15 pm. The Pack (all Cub Scouts) meets 1-2 times per month for combined events and meetings. These times can vary based on the activity (e.g., Saturday morning hike v. a joint pack meeting on a weeknight). A parent or guardian is required to accompany each scout to all Den meetings (through 3rd grade) and all Pack meetings or events (for all grades).

Den and Pack meetings are typically held at the Clifton Lutheran Church or the Marblehead Community Center.

Volunteers and Leaders

The help of our volunteers allows us to connect with the scouts and bring quality programming to the Pack. When the scouts see us in action, they are inspired to work harder and gain the most out of Scouting! Beyond the official positions below, we depend on parents and guardians to get involved in planning activities, recruiting friends to join, and helping out at Pack events and fundraisers.
